Weston-McEwen High School’s track team members wrapped up a successful season earlier this month at the 2A State Track Meet. The boys’ team finished fourth in state and the girls’ team finished fifth in state for the 2A Division.
On both teams, there were multiple athletes who finished in the top ten. Jacob Speed won the 100 Meters, 200 Meters and 400 Meters races and was the high-point scorer in the meet. The 4 x 100 relay team of Hadden Ball, Khai Robertson, Kelen McGill and Speed won, also. Katie Vescio won the 800 Meters and placed second in Pole Vault. The girl’s 4 x 400 relay team of Keree Graves, Tristin Gonzalez, Vescio and Ellie Scheibner placed third. Maddi Muilenburg placed second in Javelin and Scheibner placed third in Long Jump.
In addition to the students, the track coach also brought home an award. Loran Monaco received the 2A Track Coach of the Year Award for his leadership of the boys’ team that won state in 2017. The award was presented to Monaco after the 2018 state meet.
“We are so proud of all our track athletes and congratulate them on all their hard work that resulted in a very successful season. We also celebrate Coach Monaco on his very deserving award,” said Jim Reger, Principal of Weston-McEwen.
