Bob Fairchild is the 2019 Oregon Regional Teacher of the Year from the Northeast Region. Bob is a math and science teacher at Weston-McEwen High School in the Athena-Weston School District. He was the 2012 Weston Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year and received a Crystal Apple Award in 2014. Bob diligently seeks out the best curriculum for the school, researching options and instructional strategies and actively attending professional development opportunities. An innovative and supportive teacher, he is doing what is best for students every day.
This new award from the Oregon Department of Education, in partnership with the Oregon Lottery, celebrates outstanding educators in every region, facilitated by local Education Service Districts. Candidates are assessed on leadership, instructional expertise, community involvement, understanding of educational issues, professional development and vision. Each Regional Teacher of the Year receives a $500 award from the Oregon Lottery and is automatically considered for the 2019 Oregon Teacher of the Year, which will be announced in September.
