Spring break is a great time for students preparing to get their instruction permit to take the Oregon DMV knowledge test. Students are encouraged to save a trip to the DMV and take the knowledge test online from the comfort of their home. The online test is available in eight languages.
We created a toolkit for schools with informative material you can copy and paste into your regular communication channels. These include articles for parent newsletters, student newspapers and weekly announcements.
Please share these messages with students and their parents and guardians.

How to take the test
Customers who need to take the knowledge test can complete the requirement at home before visiting a DMV office. Students need a laptop or a desktop computer with a webcam, keyboard, mouse and reliable internet. A mobile phone or tablet will not work.
Students under 18 will need someone 21 or older to supervise them taking the test.
After students pass the test online, they will need to come into an office with their identity documents and pass a vision screening. They will then be issued a permit or be eligible to schedule a drive test, depending on their age. They can schedule an appointment or visit any DMV office without one. We recommend customers check the status of their DMV office before visiting.
