graduated McEwen High School in 1952
first athlete from the school to be selected to the East/West Shrine Football All-Star Game
he was a four sport letterman, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track
during his senior year, he started throwing the javelin while not playing basketball
without a coach or teammates, he went to the district track meet and took first place
he took second at state when a thrower from Union High School beat him on the final throw
he was Student Body President and the Letterman's Club President
he then graduated from Linfield College with a Bachelor's degree in Business
while at Linfield, he lettered in track for four years
after graduating college, he has worked in the business field for several years
he married Terry Whitaker of Athena
owner and operator of S&M farming
in 1983 he was chosen as the Oregon Conservation Award winner for his farming practices
he has served on the Athena City Council for 24 years
served as Athena City Mayor for 7 years
served on the ambulance board
he is trustee of the Watts fund since 1987
has worked on the Umatilla County Planning Commission, Umatilla County Solid Wast Committee, and the Umatilla County Parks Commission
he has three children and also has grandchildren
