earned a BS with distinction in mathematics from Stanford University
earned both his Masters degree in 1964 and Ph.D in 1965 in mathematics from the University of Oregon
spent one year on the faculty of Stanford University
spent two years on the faculty of Carneige Mellon University
spent forty years on the faculty of the University of Michigan
during his tenure at Michigan, he held visiting positions at Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Rutgers University
he has authored a textbook on probability, a research monograph on sequential analysis and written over 100 research articles
his research has been the target of many grants from the National Science Foundation
he was honored on his 65th birthday with a conference by the National Science Foundation
