David Hesp

  • Graduated from McEwen High School in 1960

  • was class Salutatorian

  • Athletic Accomplishments:

    • lettered in 4 sports

    • during his senior year, he led the football team as quarterback to the state semi-finals

    • was selected to the annual East/West Shrine football game and started as quarterback for the East, winning the game

  • Went to the University of Oregon and graduated in 1964 with a degree in Psychology

  • Military Career:

    • Was commissioned a 2nd lieutenant in the Air Force

    • entered active duty in November of 1964 and reported to Williams Air Force Base, Arizona

    • in 1970 he was assigned to Phan Rang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam where he flew the F-100 in close air support and interdiction roles

    • he flew missions over Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos

    • completed his tour with 202 combat missions and was awarded three Distinguished Flying Crosses and thirteen Air Medals for heroism

    • other aircraft he flew were the T-37, T-33, F-111, F-4 and F-16

    • he flew a total of almost 2500 hours prior to retiring in 1994 as a full Colonel after 30 years

    • was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service

  • Is married to Patti Ciambro-Hesp and has three children, Jennifer McIntyre, Tracy Begley and Zoe Hesp

  • Also has three grandchildren

  • After his military service, he resided in a suburb of Dayton Ohio, driving school bus as a semi retirement job
