his roots run deep in our community, his ancestors came across on the Oregon Trail and he is a fifth generation resident of this area

while in college he continued his involvement with student government

while in college he met his wife Margaret
Upon graduation from U of O, he spent 12 years on the staff of the Campus Crusade for Christ, an interdenominational student organization
in 1979 he returned home to raise his family and work on the family farm
he was elected as a Umatilla County Commissioner in 1982 and is now the longest serving commissioner in Umatilla Count's history
in addition to his local and state leadership, he is a national county leader as well
he was selected as the outstanding rural county commissioner in the year 2000 by the National Association of Counties
was president o f the National Association of Counties in 2005
