Terry Smith
graduated in 1963 from McEwen High School
lettered 4 times in football, 4 times in track and 3 times in basketball
in his senior year the basketball team appeared at the state tournament for the first time since 1937
won the Class AA state championship in the mile
set a state record of 4:29.2
after high school continued his education and track career at Oregon State University
graduated OSU in 1968 with degrees in Animal Science and Business
his name still appears on the South wall at OSU as one of the top runners of all time
one of his most exciting races was the Pac-10 mile dual between Olympian Gerry Lindgren of WSU and Terry
Smith ran the 6th fastest mile in Oregon State history that day finishing in 4:02, ten seconds faster than his previous record set just one week earlier at Stanford ~ most importantly he had beat Gerry Lindgren
he and his wife Penny have four children and ten grandchildren
